For those farming businesses trying to secure staff for seeding, there are continued frustrations in trying to access a larger pool of staff for seeding due to a lack of information regarding the definition of skilled workers by the state government. Let's hope for some clarity on the issue soon.
The staffing issues, of course, extend far beyond the agricultural industry. The ongoing staffing issue at Esperance Aged Care Facility is now a critical issue. Norman Clark has been living at the Esperance Hospital for five months because the town's only aged care facility is too short staffed to take him.
The 95-year-old moved to the town on WA's south coast with his wife Gladys five years ago to be closer to his daughter Elaine Siemer, with the expectation they would move into the Esperance Aged Care Facility if necessary.
A FORTNIGHT after the State government announced skilled workers would be allowed into Western Australia under new exemption criteria, the agricultural industry still has no idea what roles are included and what the potential quarantine opportunities might be.
Premier Mark McGowan announced on January 20 that the hard border would not be coming down on February 5 as promised, throwing plans to bring workers from interstate and overseas into WA from that date into disarray.
